The TR4-A

A few years ago I got a arfix set for christmas. I rushed it quite badly. It did look quite awful so I came up with an idea to make a new Scalextric car out of it. I combined Scalextric a porsche boxster chassis and the body of the TR4-A. The the design I inspire to do is this 1963 sebring type.

I started by striping the body. most of it was off of the car already.

The chassis didn't fit exactly but it can be adjusted.

The new wheels are from one of my many ford escort MK1's.

I painted it light blue and gave it the number 26 which was one of the three Triumph TR4's (TRS's) 1961 le mans. The interior is made form some black card that I fit to size.

I cut the Airfix TR4-A seat so i just had the back and the driver was a spear from one of my Mclaren's f1 cars. So I painted the white helmet to make it more realistic.

The decals I printed off on to self adhesive paper. and also stuck. The super glue ran down the windscreen that lets it down and also the front window is very week.

A few chips already after a bit of racing but thats what you will expect from a home made car. the badge was also painted with a steady hand!

Headlights painted as well as the bumper and the rear badges.

the driver sits in well.

The headlight covers were made out of insulating tape cut up.
I had to adjust the chassis as it didn't fit.

The guides just fit inside underneath the body. if it didn't, it would break quite easily.

Even though the windscreen may be horrible it is a very fast car and its good to say I made that.

A video of the car.

I very much enjoyed making this car and you will see a lot more scratch building from me!
